Not a Half-Life Alyx mod this time, but a VR adaptation of Half-Life 2: Episode One – the community-made Half-Life 2 VR mod for Episode One.
Released in 2004 for PC, Half-Life 2 is considered one of the best games ever made. Two years after the game’s release, developer Valve released Half-Life 2: Episode One, a standalone title in the Half-Life series, revealing the impact of Half-Life 2 and offering fans a journey beyond City 17.
Fast forward sixteen years and now we have an interesting VR adaptation of Episode One in the same vein as the Half-Life 2 VR mod, courtesy of the Source VR Mod team. This mod works with any SteamVR-compatible VR headset and includes support for bHaptics vests for added immersion. “Return as Gordon Freeman to City 17 and deal with the consequences of your actions,” reads the mod’s description. “Manage the gravity gun to deadly effect, fight battleships and striders, and survive the darkness. Can you escape City 17 with Alix?”
Those interested in this new spin on Half-Life 2 VR Mod can download it from Steam here. Please note that you will need to own Half-Life 2 Episode One in order to install and play this VR adaptation (the original game does not need to be installed on your system). Below you will find a video of this mod in action:
As we said, Half-Life 2 was released for PC in 2004. The shooter was later released on other platforms as well. Exact sales numbers have not been shared, but we do know that the game has sold over 12 million copies worldwide. In 2020, to the delight of many fans, Valve returned to the Half-Life franchise with Half-Life Alyx, a VR installment in the series set five years before the events of Half-Life 2.
Half-Life: Alyx is Valve’s VR return to the Half-Life series. It’s the story of an impossible battle against a vicious alien race known as the Combine, set between the events of Half-Life and Half-Life 2.
Playing as Alyx Vance, you are humanity’s only chance for survival. The Combine’s control of the planet after the Black Mesa incident only strengthened as they kept the remaining population in the cities. Among them are some of the greatest scientists on Earth: you and your father, Dr. Eli Vance.
As the founders of a fledgling resistance, you continued your clandestine scientific work—conducting critical research and creating invaluable tools for the few brave enough to oppose the Combine.
Every day you learn more about your enemy and every day you work to find a weakness.
